Start with AI

Summary

Mentimeter provides an option for you to use AI (OpenAI) to build a draft presentation for use as a start point. This will typically contain a mix of content and interactive slides, with images selected from the Mentimeter image library.

Using Start with AI

From the Mentimeter home screen, select the 'Start with AI' button, insert a suitable prompt, select a theme for the presentation, and wait for the slides to be generated. You can see the steps in full with screenshots on Mentimeter's How to use the AI Menti Builder page.

Using AI tools effectively

AI-generated content is a starting point for your own content development rather than a finished product. You must always carefully check that output is accurate and appropriate for your intended use and adapt as needed.

Prompting

The key elements required in the prompt are the type of session and the topic. Some interactive questions are included in every presentation, but if you specify a 'workshop' rather than a 'lecture' or 'presentation', there will typically be a greater number of question slides compared to content slides. You can also specify a 'survey' which will create a presentation that only includes question slides and which is in 'survey mode' (you can switch this to presentation mode after creation as needed).

Editing

You can edit any slide to suit your needs, but it is not possible to go back to tweak the initial prompt used. Instead, you would need to start again with an alternative prompt. When editing question slides, you can usually switch between different closed question types (e.g. MCQ to ranking or scales) or between open questions types (e.g. word cloud to open response) to suit your needs without losing any content. You can also change any of the images used.

Design and accessibility

When using 'Start with AI'', you are not given the option to select one of the University themes. These must be selected from 'Design - themes' once the presentation has been created.

Images built using 'Start with AI' do not have alt-text, so you will need to add this when sharing your slides before or after a live presentation. If you replace an image with an alternative from the Mentimeter image library, this will include alt-text as normal.
