Mentimeter presentations

Summary

Create a Mentimeter presentation and build your slides.

Create a Mentimeter presentation to build content and interactive/question slides. You can use this as a standalone presentation or integrate with PowerPoint/Google Slides.

You can also use engagement and response tools such as Q&A and emoji reactions throughout your presentation, and use mentimote to control your presentation using a mobile device (see the presenting guide for more information).

Create a new presentation

Create a new presentation directly from your Mentimeter Home screen using the New Menti button.

For more details, see Mentimeter's guide to the Home screen or watch the tutorial below.

You can also use the 'AI assistant' to build a draft presentation from prompts or by uploading an existing PowerPoint presentation (Use AI in Mentimeter).

Relevant VLE site design principles

  • 2.3 Essential: Design and images adhere to the UoY brand.

We recommend using one of the University of York slide themes. These have designed to have high contrast and good accessibility using the University brand colours, and also contain the UoY logo.

  1. Under Design options, select Themes.

  2. Select one of the University of York theme options.

You can also select from other Mentimeter theme options or create your own theme. You can use the built-in accessibility checker to ensure your slides have adequate colour contrast.

You can organise your presentaions in folders.

Presentation language, profanity filter and LaTeX Maths support

You can select the language of choice for instructions and other elements that participants will see when they respond to your presentation from the settings and also switch on the profanity filter to automatically strip out contributions in text-based questions/interaction that contain words included within Mentimeter’s profanity database.

You can also add LaTeX within most elements of Menti slides in order to add maths and mark up any words within your presentation contents that are in another language. This will ensure that these words are pronounced in the target language by screenreaders.

Slide types

Content slides

Use Mentimeter content slides to add 'normal' slides into your presentation. These could add context to interactive slides, or let you create and run accessible presentations entirely within Mentimeter.

Mentimeter content slides can include:

  • Text slides with headings, paragraphs, quotes, formatting, bullet points (revealed at once or one at a time), columns, and images.
  • images (including instant access to a library of copyright free images, animations and gifs)
  • embedded videos

UoY feedback

Content slides do not include the all layout, transition and animation options available in PowerPoint or Google Slides. However, a number of staff have provided feedback that they value the use of Mentimeter content slides for simplifying the layout of presentations and improving accessibility.

Question & interactivity slides

Add interactivity to your presentation with the various question or interaction types:

Organise, duplicate, skip or delete slides

You can also organise your presentations in folders. You can also select one or multiple slides within presentations to duplicate, delete or skip, and you can use 'grid view' for an overview of a whole presentation to make it easier to select multiple slides [Menti guide: Select and edit multiple slides at once (copy, duplicate, skip, or delete)].

Integrating Mentimeter with other presentation platforms

It is possible to integrate Mentimeter slides into other presentation platforms, particularly PowerPoint or Google Slides.

Our guide to Integrating Mentimeter questions into presentations covers different options for this:

  1. Switch between your presentation tool and Mentimeter (Recommended in most cases as the most straightforward and effective option)
  2. Create your whole presentation in Mentimeter by creating content slides to use alongside your question slides.
  3. Use the Powerpoint add-in to bring your Mentimeter question slides into Powerpoint.
  4. Import or embed your PowerPoint or Google slides presentation into Mentimeter.

Warning

There are no official Google Slides ‘add-ons’ for Mentimeter so please do not install any add-ons that promise to integrate Mentimeter with Google Slides. These add-ons are unlikely to be effective and may constitute a security risk.

Anonymity in Mentimeter

By default, Mentimeter is completely anonymous.
