Tools for assessed presentations
Summary
Assessed presentations can be managed in various ways, depending on the presentation format and what you would like students to submit.
There are a lot of options for running assessed presentations. They can be:
- formative or summative
- individual or group
- delivered live or pre-recorded
All assessed presentations are assumed to be non-anonymous.
Tip
Non-anonymous Ultra Assignment submission points are recommended for assessed presentations. Turnitin Feedback Studio submission points should only be used for individual summative presentations where similarity reports are required for the slides.
Live presentations
Live/standard presentations delivered in person or online (eg. Zoom).
- Submitted work: slide deck (.pptx or .pdf)
- Suited to: individual or group presentations
- Assessment type: non-anonymous only, formative or summative
Workflow:
- Staff: set up a non-anonymous Ultra Assignment submission point (formative or summative) or a Turnitin Feedback Studio submission point (individual summative only).
- Students: submit slides to submission point before presentation session (.pptx or .pdf format).
- Students/staff: presentations delivered live in person or online.
- Staff: give feedback (and marks for summative) through the submission point.
In person presentation sessions can be recorded for later reference using lecture capture; contact us to arrange this if needed.
Pre-recorded screencast
Remote presentations where students record a screen capture video of them delivering the slides.
- Submitted work: video file
- Suited to: individual or group presentations
- Assessment type: non-anonymous only, formative or summative
Workflow:
- Staff: set up a non-anonymous Ultra Assignment submission point (formative or summative).
- Students: record their presentation screencast.
- Students: submit the video file to the submission point using Panopto Video Assessment Submissions.
- Staff: give feedback (and marks for summative) through the submission point.

Narrated slide deck
Remote presentations where students record audio narration for each slide.
- Submitted work: slide deck with audio narration (.pptx)
- Suited to: individual presentations (group presentations possible, but may be complicated to record)
- Assessment type: non-anonymous only, formative or summative
Workflow:
- Staff: set up a non-anonymous Ultra Assignment submission point (formative or summative) or a Turnitin Feedback Studio submission point (individual summative only).
- Students: record narration for each slide using Powerpoint audio recording feature.
- Students: submit narrated slides to submission point (.pptx)
- Staff: give feedback (and marks for summative) through the submission point. Note that files must be downloaded to be able to play audio.
