Anonymous Assignment: end of life

Summary

The Anonymous Assignment tool (in the Blackboard Learn VLE) has been retired and replaced with TurnItIn Feedback Studio from 2023/24.

This guide considers the implications for new submissions by resitting/extension students in modules from 2022/23 or earlier. It is primarily aimed at administrators.

Background

The anonymous assignment building block was retired in September 2023. All "in VLE" file based summative assessments should now be set up using the new Turnitin Feedback Studio submission points from within a Learn Ultra site.

Warning

Anonymous Assignment submission points are no longer available for any user in any module site, even those set up in sites from 2022/23 or earlier.

Handling new submissions for 2022/23 modules

Students resitting, with an extension, returning from Leave of Absence or otherwise submitting assignments for modules from the 2022/23 academic year or earlier must use an alternative to the Anonymous Assignment tool:

  • Recommended approach: students submit to a Turnitin Feedback Studio (TFS) submission point in a new Ultra site. This uses the same marking workflow as other TFS submission points used from 2023/24, and can continue to receive late or extended submissions indefinitely.
  • Students submit to a TFS submission point in the relevant 2022/23 (or earlier) module site.
  • Students email their submission to a departmental assessment or administrative email account.

Departmental administrators should advise students where and how to submit their work. This information will not be provided automatically through the VLE.

Tip

We will need to reenable Learn Ultra (VLE) access for students returning from LoA before they can submit assessments. See our guide to Assessment and Leave of Absence for details.
